Timmun
and Kristiina Alariaq, your expedition guides, are the owners and operators of Huit Huit
Tours. Timmun, born in an outpo
st camp and raised on the land, has learned
all the traditional knowledge and skills to survive on land and sea. Educated in
the South, he returned to the North where he has worked as a media
coordinator, artist and government administrator while continuing to hunt,
fish, and train sled dogs. Kristiina, born in Finland and raised in Northern
Ontario, arrived in Cape Dorset in 1976.
She has learnt traditional Inuit women's skills, dog sledding, Inuit art and social development in Nunavut. Their passion for the North and respect for traditional Inuit knowledge is transmitted through the unique cultural experiences they share with their guests as they discover the Arctic.
Our trips are designed to share with you our deep
appreciation for the natural arctic environment and our respect for Inuit
traditions and knowledge. On our summer sea trips we visit Thule and Tuniit
camps along the South Baffin coast where we can share with you the traditional
knowledge passed down the life of these former Peoples. We marvel at
our ancestors’ ingenuity and ability to survive in this harsh arctic
environment.
At the same time, we discover a land and sea environment rich with the many species of plant and wildlife that has sustained Inuit for centuries. Exploring these expansive horizons will stimulate your senses. New sights, sounds, tastes and smells will deepen your knowledge, appreciation and connection to the natural world. Come join us on an Arctic adventure, a dream of Arctic discovery.
